Getting to Mammoth
Mammoth Lakes is deep within the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. It is stunning, but remote. Below are a few options to get there.
Be sure to check out Visit Mammoth for lots of great info!
DRIVE
Mammoth Lakes is around 6 hours from San Francisco & 5 hours from LA. Driving from San Francisco will route you through Yosemite National Park, which does require entry permits even if just passing through. Please prepare accordingly, or choose an alternate route like Sonora Pass.
FLY
Reno-Tahoe (RNO)
Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is 3 hours from Mammoth. It is an easy drive through a beautiful, albeit desolate, part of California. This is likely the cheapest & simplest option.
Mammoth-Yosemite (MMH)
Mammoth-Yosemite Airport (MMH) is a semi-private airport 10 minutes outside Mammoth. It has minimal rental car options, but shuttles are available. Flights are limited, so please see the full airport comparison below for details. While the most convenient, MMH will also be the most complicated.
Bishop (BIH)
Eastern Sierra Regional Airport (BIH) is a regional airport located in Bishop, CA, about 1 hour from Mammoth. This will likely be more expensive than Reno & still somewhat complicated, but the option is there if it works for you. Please see the full airport comparison below for more details.
